The Citadel of Cairo

Salah Al-Deen (known as Saladin to European historians) overthrew the Fatimid dynasty in 1171 AD, establishing the new Sunni Ayyubid Caliphate. Given the threat of invasion by European crusader armies, Saladin decided to improve the fortifications of the city and in 1176 AD he began construction of a wall that would encircle both Al-Qahira (today Islamic) and Fustat (Old Cairo). Saladin’s Citadel served as the seat of government in Egypt for 700 years until Khedive Ismail moved into Abdin Palace in newly constructed Downtown Cairo in the 1870’s.

Mohamed Ali Mosque

The Mosque of Muhammad Ali is located inside the Citadel of Salah al‑Din al‑Ayyubi (Saladin) in Cairo. It was built by Muhammad Ali Pasha (1220–1264 AH/1805–1848 AD), the founder of the Muhammad Ali Dynasty (1220–1372 AH/1805–1953 AD), on the site of Mamluk palaces. He had these demolished to make room for his new building, which is also known as the "Alabaster Mosque", in reference to its marble paneling on its interior and exterior walls. The mosque’s twin minarets are the highest in all of Egypt, each reaching a height of 84 meters.

Sultan Hassan & Elrefai Mosques

It is one of the largest and architecturally exquisite mosques in all of Egypt. It was commissioned by the Mamluk sultan Hasan ibn al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun sometime between 757 AH/1356 AD and 764 AH/1362 AD, and is located at the end of Muhammad Ali Street, opposite its nineteenth century neighbor al-Rifa’i mosque in Salah al-Din Square.

Day 5: 🏜️ 🏜️✨ Fayoum Oasis Adventure | Wadi El Rayan, Wadi El Hitan & Desert Safari Experience πŸš™πŸŒ„

Included Activities: Β Wadi El Rayan, Mudora Mountains, Sand boarding , Jeep Safari, Wadi Hitan

Fayoum was a key Ancient Egyptian city, important for its strategic location and often noted as the city of the crocodile god Sobek, which is why the Greeks referred to it as Credophiles. Fayoum was later absorbed by the Roman and Greek Empires.

I will pick you up from your hotel in Cairo to enjoy El Fayoum famous sites. From Cairo to Fayoum is about 95 km. Today all visits are in Wadi El Ryan

Wadi El Ryan

The Protected Area of Wadi El-Rayan is situated in the Western Desert of Egypt about 40 kilometers to South-west of the city of Fayoum, 150 kilometers to the South of Cairo, the Egyptian capital. Wadi El Rayan is separated from the depression of El Fayoum by a large limestone area.

The Valley of the Whales in Fayoum

Wadi Al-Hitan was the location of the Tethys Sea and after 40 to 50 million years the water was gone and left the Western Desert with many fossil skeletons for the sea creatures.Β  These skeletons were discovered due to winds and erosion then the humans interfered to continue discovering this huge treasure which helps in understanding the earth’s development until today. This wonderful open museum made it possible to reach the deeper land of the sea to discover what was going there. The archeological excavations happen now in Wadi Al-Hitan sponsored by the National Geographic Society and the University of Michigan.

Mudawara Mountain

Mudawara Mountain is located only a couple of hundred meters to the south of Wadi El Rayyan Road, just after it passes to the north of El Fayoum Lake. You can park at the edge of the road, or some people actually drive across the desert to the base of the formation. Mudawara Mountain, 45 million years old, is associated with the pre-Middle Leocene period, which moved north of Egypt, resulting in arches in the north-east and south-west direction.

Day 14: 🏺✨ Luxor Royal Treasures Tour πŸ‘‘πŸŒ„

Included Activities: Hatshepsut Temple – Colossi of Memnon – 6 tombs in the Valley of the Kings tombs of (Tut Ankh Amun – Seti I – Ramses V – Merenptah – Ramses III – Tausert and Seth Nakht)

In the beautiful morning after breakfast, our tour guide will meet you to take you to enjoy a journey in the west bank of Luxor where you will visit:

The Valley of the Kings

The rulers of the Eighteenth, Nineteenth, and Twentieth Dynasties of Egypt’s prosperous New Kingdom (c.1550–1069 BC) were buried in a desolate dry river valley across the river from the ancient city of Thebes (modern Luxor).

The Tomb of King Tut Ankh Amun

The tomb of the Eighteenth Dynasty king Tutankhamun (c.1336–1327 BC) is world-famous because it is the only royal tomb from the Valley of the Kings that was discovered relatively intact. Its discovery in 1922 by Howard Carter made headlines worldwide, and continued to do so as the golden artifacts and other luxurious objects discovered in this tomb.

The Tomb of King Ramses VI

This tomb was begun by King Ramesses V (c.1147–1143 BC) of the Twentieth Dynasty. Although it is uncertain whether he was ultimately buried here, it is clear that his uncle Ramesses VI (c.1143–1136 BC) enlarged the tomb and used it.

The Tomb of King Seti I

The tomb of Sety I is one of the longest, deepest, and most beautifully decorated tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Sety I (c.1294–1279 BC) was the second king of the Nineteenth Dynasty, and father of Ramesses II (the Great). His tomb, number 17 in the Valley of the Kings, is sometimes called β€œBelzoni’s tomb” after its discoverer.

The Tomb of King Merenptah

Β The second-largest tomb in the valley, Merenptah’s tomb has been open since antiquity and has its share of Greek and Coptic graffiti. Floods have damaged the lower part of the walls of the long tunnel-like tomb, but the upper parts have well-preserved reliefs. The corridors are decorated with the Book of the Dead, the Book of Gates and the Book of Amduat. Beyond a shaft is a false burial chamber with two pillars decorated with the Book of Gates.

The Tomb of King Ramses III

One of the most popular tombs in the valley, KV 11 is also one of the most interesting and best preserved. Originally started by Sethnakht (1186–1184 BC), the project was abandoned when workers hit the shaft of another tomb (KV10). Work resumed under Ramses III (1184–1153 BC), the last of Egypt’s warrior pharaohs, with the corridor turning to the right, then left. It continues deep (125m overall) into the mountain and opens into a magnificent eight-pillared burial chamber.

The Tomb of Tausert & Seth Nakht

Β Tomb KV14Β is a joint tomb, used originally byΒ TausertΒ and then reused and extended byΒ Setnakhte. It has been open sinceΒ antiquity, but was not properly recorded untilΒ Hartwig AltenmΓΌllerΒ excavated it from 1983 to 1987. Located in the main body of theΒ Valley of the Kings, it has two burial chambers, the later extensions making the tomb one of the largest of the Royal Tombs, at over 112 meters long.

The Temple of Hatshepsut

Hatshepsut (c.1473–1458 BC), the queen who became Pharaoh, built a magnificent temple at Deir al-Bahari, on the west back of Luxor. It lies directly across the Nile from Karnak Temple, the main sanctuary of the god Amun. Hatshepsut’s temple, Djeser-djeseru β€œthe Holy of Holies” was designed by the chief steward of Amun, Senenmut.

The Colossi of Memnon

These two faceless colossi (the plural of colossus, which just means larger-than-life statue) are the first thing visitors see when they reach the west bank of the Nile opposite Luxor. This isn't surprising when you hear their dimensions: they tower 60 feet (18 m) above the plains and are estimated to weigh an enormous 720 tons each.

Enjoy your delicious lunch in Luxor restaurant then drive to your Luxor hotel to check in and overnight.
